April 16/22 - Delivery of Easter Hamper of Food $106 USD

"In other news, we delivered the easter hamper to the Mutasas yesterday...
we got them a storage box for their food because I thought that with the little room that they have, there must be rats in the house (to which they said, indeed).
they were in disbelief, Brenda was a lot happier than the first time i met her. I don't know why.
I told them about school and I think I may have heard a shriek in Godfrey's voice as he raised his hands, clapped and shook mine; all the while saying, "God has answered our prayers."

Then on Saturdy, Shafic and I went to the market to buy things that they would need to start school on Monday.
This included: books, rulers, pencils, sharpeners, bags, clothes, underwear and shoes. We delivered them to the home and the children were ecstatic.
The youngest child started to cry because they did not receive sandals so we went back to the market and got her a pair. Please forgive the photo quality, we did not want to take pictures outside the house, trying not to parade your giving to the whole neighbourhood.
Today morning, Shafic has just shared these photos of the kids going to school.
He says the teachers were very welcoming and the kids are apparently walking on the clouds.
They are clean, well dressed and so happy. Thank you for your kindness."

Mutasas School
Sept 7, 2022 - Business for mother Brenda and registration in school.
I spoke with Brenda about finding a venue for her to start a business, preferably a different location from where they're living so that the pressures of the family do not interfere with the business. I have also tasked Betty to find a better location for us to start a business for her too.
So we need to pray for brenda that starting the business does not make her partner jealous. I asked to inform him that we want to give her a chance to start. then also for betty to find an affordable location to set up shop.
We have also paid for extra classes for the children in both families because they need to improve in their studies. their end of term reports were not too good. I will try to share copies as soon as i can.

Dec 2023
After a couple of failed attempts in creating sustainable business ideas due to struggles with substance use, the Sharing Well has decided to focus on supporting the 4 children to complete primary school and they are doing very well.

Godfrey Mutasa is a builder/porter and that is how he brings in some money for the family. He claims though that most of the construction projects that he ends up on, close abruptly.
Brenda Nayiga does laundry for homes in her neighbourhood at a fee which is how she makes a little money for the family.
Samuel Lubanga and Babirye Kisakye are children from Godfrey’s previous relationships and they are all in school along with the rest. They are doing well in school. Kisakye is the best performing child among the children whereas Samuel is reported as a very disciplined boy.
Ian Mutasa is also in school and graduated from kindergarten last year.
Gift Namwebya is attending school as well.
Precious Nangobi is the youngest and was enrolled in school this year.
All five children started the second term of the school year on 27-May-24. Generally the children are happier, in the past when we visited, they would hide but now they are more confident and run to greet. They have otherwise maintained a good health card so that is a relief.

Godfrey Mutasa claims that since the rains set in, construction work has been hard to find. Brenda Nayiga still washes laundry to bring in some money for the family. She gave her life to Christ and joined a church called Sezi Ministries where she is part of the choir.
Samuel Lubanga and Babirye Kisakye are in school and went on their first ever school trip. Ian Mutasa, Gift Namwebya and Precious Nangobi are in school as well and went on their first trip.
All five children have had an exciting school term so far. They went on their first ever school trip (possibly the farthest they have been from home) and visited Entebbe International Airport, Uganda Wildlife Educational Centre (Zoo) and Freedom City (Amusement Park).

Sept 2024

Godfrey Mutasa was away at construction site at the time of my visit but he is well.
Brenda Nayiga now has about 3-5 customers a week that she does laundry for and is still part of her savings group.
Samuel Lubanga was away playing soccer in the neighbourhood; he was 6/21 in the previous term.
Babirye Kisakye was 10/51 in the previous term, she was playing chef with her siblings.
Ian Mutasa was 29/44 in the previous term and his English is improving as well as his hygiene. Gift Namwebya was 36/46 in the previous term and is scheduled to graduate from kindergarten at the end of this year.
Precious Nangobi is okay and mimicking her older siblings.
Our contact Shafic, blessed the family with a children’s Bible so they can have glimpses into the Word of God. He senses that the family is changing and becoming more responsive. Brenda says that Godfrey has changed and is less quarrelsome these days. Godfrey is still lobbying for the business injection and called to say that he had raised UGX. 100,000 so far. The children are generally happier and will be resuming school on 16-SEP-2024.

The family moved to a new home which is an upgrade from their previous place
which was located in a swampy area and susceptible to flooding during the rains.
Brenda feels like she has slightly more collaboration with Godfrey and that the year
has been gentle on them.

Feb 2025

Godfrey Mutasa has started washing motorcycles for income.
Brenda Nayiga returned from visiting her family in the village where she found that her mother was not well. She received some money from her savings group and intends to start a maize snack business.
Samuel Lubanga has started attending church and is reading thr Bible that our contact, Shafic, gifted the children.
Babirye Kisakye was excited to hear that their swimming fees for the term had been covered as well as the new school bags they received.
Ian Mutasa was not feeling well at the time of the visit, he had a running stomach.
Gift Namwebya will be joining primary school this year and was recovering from measles.
Precious Nangobi was promoted to middle class in kindergarten.
The first school term for the year resumed on 27-Jan-25 and all fees was cleared including getting new uniforms and school bags for the children. We have also included an extra-curricular/recreational activity provided by the school, swimming. Our contact Shafic has made the initiative to read a Bible story to the children every time he visits and they started with the story of David and Goliath this month.

March 2025
Our contact Shafic is maintaining the habit of going through a Bible story with the children whenever he visits. They read the story of Noah on this visit although unfortunately, the children had lost the Bible that was given to them at the last visit.
We were also able to visit the family with Pastor Scott before heading to the airport. He delivered some the gifts in form of flash cards, v-tech toys, pencils, crayons and markers. One of the children was coughing repeatedly, I believe due to the dampness of the house. Unbeknownst to me, I realise now that the new house they are staying in is Brenda’s attempt to escape an altercation with her husband who was offended when she confronted him about his drinking. Pastor Scott handed over the gifts and prayed for the family.
